DeskTop Replacement...
as in laptops that are designed to replace the functionality of a desktop rather than being say an ultrathin, ultralight, ultraportable.

they are more horsepower than the standard fare when it comes to laptops, but the downside is less-than-stellar battery life.

Ok, got my mobile working correctly. Running totaly stable at 250x9/2.25Ghz/1..3v (might even do lower vcore).

I'm useing an AK89 MAX and the 1.07a BIOS. CPU is a 2800+ 35 watt mobile: model - AMD2800QX4AX; stepping- CBASC (week 18 of 2004).

The emachines M680x has the regular MOBILE Athlon 64 (1.4 V, 62 W max ). The Arima W720D-K8 design doesn't allow a DTR because of heat dissipation constraints (89W max)

The 62W max CPU (40 W typical?) is the reason why the machine gets 3 hours with a wimpy 4400mAH @ 19.8 volts battery (aprox 65 Whr)

I am planning to upgrade the CPU on mine once the warranty is over. A 3700+ 62W, or the best 35W available at that time (3400+?)

Thsnks for the results, oralpain!
1.3v sounds pretty good at that speed. My interest has just shot up again...hehe

Dude, He's doing 2.25ghz on only 1.3v that's fairly indicative that it'll go higher ;)

Yes, you can set it to what ever voltage the mobo will support. If you get a motherbaord with settings 300+ clock/fsb, you wont need a 10 multiplyer. Mine tops out at 250 so a highe rmultiplyer would be useful in my case, but I intend to get a new board for it, sooner or later.

Do these(the 35watt A64's) have heat spreaders? The one in the pick on newegg doesn't show it, so I would assume no. So that means you would have to modify the heatsink to fit wouldn't you?

DTRs and Mobiles do NOT have a heatspreader. You may have to mod the heatsink or mounting bracket depending on what heatsink you are useing. I had to dremel my bracket to hell and back to mount my silent boost on my old 3400+ after I cut off the heatspreader.

I am now useing a Swiftech MCX64-V, it doesnt nead any modification at all. Just use the heatsink and the back plate, do NOT use the black plastic upper bracket. Set the heatsink on the die and screw it directly into the backplate with the included mounting screws/springs. Be very careful to keep both sides level, don't scew one side in then the other, that will crush the die.

Not with this motherbaord I can't, It only goes to 250MHz in the BIOS. If I had a board with more voltage and clock adjustments I could prolly get another 400Mhz or so out of it.

Well is there a list of heatsinks that work with the chips without the heatspreader, from this thread the Swiftech MCX64-V, from the other thread I think they said the Thermalright 948U(is that right), any others?

Most heatsinks that screw directly intot he backplate and do not use the standard clips will work, just leave off the balck plastic part of the bracket and becareful when screwing the heatsink down.

One thing I noticed, on all 3 A64s boards I have used the raised part of the SOCKET itself has been higher than the die of the chip. You should sand this down, if your heatsink will go over that part (the Swiftech MCX64-V does not so no sanding needed), a minute with 80 grit sand paper worked great for my other heatsink.
