If there was a 35W Mobile 3000+ I might think about it. My laptop has a DTR 3000+ in it now and I can't imagine downgrading.

Well we are talking 1.8ghz on just 1.2v so this badboy may have some headroom is why I ask.

Hmm that thing runs at 1.2v. That could get interesting running at 1.7v. Wondering also if these are mobile 2400xp's reincarnations :)?

I hope not, seeing as the 2400+-M I just used for a client's build could barely manage 2.2ghz@1.75v ;) I know, most are getting sweet overclocks from them, don't rub it in! :p I'm definitely having a hard time not clicking add to cart! The wifey will be a menacing adversary if I do though

Dapunisher, you know you want to order it. Just do it. :)
Then supply us with your results :D
I was really interested in the original mobile athlon 64s (1.4v ones) but my interest was more swayed to the 35w mobile bartons.
I would love to upgrade to one of these, though, if they do nicely.
That's some low voltage on those babies.

Does anyone know of a tried and true good overclocking socket 754 motherboard?

I know, I just left out the ;) or :p emoticons. I'd get one and push it a bit if I had the cash though. My 3000+ is at 2GHz now (1.8 stock) and is only limited by not having an AGP\PCI lock.

3200+ version of...DRT? 1.4v Mobile?
Definitely not the 35w 1.2v mobile. Max I saw was the 2800+.

The only thing I'm censerned with is the low 512 cache. This chip needs about 100-200Mhz more to equal it's 1mb brother, and how are you going to get FSB to 300..ie 2700 to equal a 2500Mhz 1mb cached chip which can be achived at lower FSB like 275 for the 3000 mobile?

I don't think the lack of 512kb in cache will be too big of an issue. In a primarily gaming rig, it won't cause much of a difference. In something else, yes it could be cause for concern. I wouldn't mind getting one of these with the 512kb cache. I just play games and browse the internet. It would rock for my purposes. I'm just waiting for someone to get one and confirm that it is an excellent overclocker :)

No question about it if building a whole new system A64 is the way to go. When you factor in costs of everything it's more like 20% more money for about 25% more performance. It's a deal. Assuming overclcoking to 2.5 on both chips

However, if just upgrading mobo and CPU its a harder argument. 100% more money for 25% more performance.

edit:
I'm using the 2600 mobile as the A-XP comparison point since the 2400/2500 is not reiable to 2.5.

I ordered an Athon64 mobile 2800+ 1.2v to replace my 3400+ (old c0 stepping, toped out at 2.3 ghz). If it works at all I anticipate an excelent overclock, but only time will tell.

Running at 300MHz+ bus is no problem for my ak89 max, it has an agp/pci slot and I can take it as far as clockgen lets me. I've run 420x5 before with pc3200 ram set to ddr200 and HTT set to 1x. 'm hoping to use 300x9 or 325x8 with this mobile, but will settle for 300x8. I just hope the board recognizes the chip and boots...

Should all be here by friday.

I would much appreciate it if you could take the time, when you get the processor installed, to post us results of your overclocking. I'm very interested :)

Alright, got everything setup, but there are problems. The only multiplyer that works correctly is 4x... not good. Right now im at 500x4. Will try a few more things and post back later.

Do they sell laptop cases so you can build your own laptop? Because I would like to build one with the an A64-M proc.

500x4 was quite unstable, setting ddr to 200 in bios cahnges some timengs that are not manually adjustable on this baord. Running 260x4 right now at 1.0 volt. Not fast, but 28C full load temps in a 26C room is not bad...

Anyone know of a program that will change multiplyer besides clockgen?

my laptop is the emachines m6805 with the 3000+... but what dictates that this chip is DTR? It boots and recognizes as a Mobile A64... do they just run on different voltages?

And if I ran a 35w a64 instead, would i see MUCH improved battery times?
