Anyone on here custom design furniture?

I'm thinking of building myself a custom TV shelf thing. It'd be about 22" H x 80" L by 18" D. I'm prefectly capable of doing the actual building of the thing myself, but I've never done any furniture design before. Any tips for coming up with something sturdy that looks good at the same time?

Solidworks, draw something, specify a material and put a load on it to test it with Cosmosexpress.

for the price of all that software you could have a pretty nice woodshop in your basement

The SolidWorks I used has cosmosexpress integrated with it. If you still go to school you can use solidworks at school's computers.
