Anyone OC a 1.4 Tbird to 1.6 without a 400+W PSU?

I thought my 350 W Enermax would be sufficient to overclock my 1.4 athlon quite a bit, but I may be wrong. Anything over 136 FSB and I get windows errors like crazy. And that is with an SK6 + AS2 with a 30 SCFM delta. The CPU temp stays below 50 C, according to the Epox 8k7a bios. Anyone think my PSU might not be the weakest link?

I doubt its the PSU ALOT...you might have just got unlucky with a POS cpu or your hard drive can't do it etc.

It could very well be.
I have a 1 gig oc/1.430 right now.
I had an Antec 303 and it would not do over 1.350 stable.
I replaced it with a Turbo Cool Power supply and it now does 1.450mz stable at 1.8v
I run it at 1.430 as not to push it.
A good power supply make a world of difference.
Check these out.. They'll cost you though, but they're really good.

thephew, I wouldn't doubt it. I'm having problems with one of my DVD drives and once I get a new PSU, I bet it will be fine. BTW, Epox 8K7A+1.4GHz Tbird on a fairly generic 300w PSU (made by Green line...it came with my Inwin Q500a case almost 2 years ago...).

This Enermax is no cheapo PSU though. It is a newer model, and was nearly $70 shipped. I would like to think I didn't get too little power to overclock, considering right now all I have is a GF3, a dvd drive, a hard drive, a sound card, NIC, and 3 case fans to run.

I think the GF3's are not too tolerant to high AGP speeds...have you tried a multiplier only overclock? Although 136mhz FSB is not high at all...might be the PSU.

thephew, if thats all your running, i dont think its the psu. im running voodoo5 (which requires extra power from the psu), a cdrw, a dvd rom, hard drive, sound card, modem, and a 1.33 t-bird, all on a 300w psu from enlight. while im not overclocking, i havent had any problems.

I didn't take my OC attempt too seriously. Didn't mess with voltages or memory timings or anything. Maybe when it cools off around here (september) I will give it a real try.

HOWEVER. I noticed in BIOS that my 5V line is running at 4.83 volts. Is this bad? The others were above rated.
