Anyone noticed easier SETI WU's recently?

I'm not complaining but my 4 client fleet at home is averaging 25 WU's/day and it's normally in the upper teens to lower 20's. My 29 client work fleet is averaging 92 WU's/day and it's normally in the low 80's. This seems to have been happening over the past 3 days or so. Anyone else noticed quicker completion times?

Same here, I would guess we're working on tapes with high angle ranges, the antenna probably was unused or the tracking system not working?

Oh yeah - they started coming in over the weekend and some people I know have been loading up their queues with them... 😉

Poof - What kind of lowdown dirty scumbag would do that? Please tell me! I'll be back in a minute, I've got to move some files and restart a program. 😉

LOL - I was going to post a similar thread! 🙂😀 You beat me to the punch Robor!

My apartment fleet does around 21 WU's/day and it dumped 28 this morning! Most of these new WU's are in the 11.x Angle-Range. Maybe they are tired of hearing us bitch about the slow ones!! 🙂

I sure have. For the first time my WUs are getting done in less than 7 hours on my machine, and less than 5 on Scott's! 🙂 Now I could scavenge out all the medium-angle WUs, but I won't because that would hurt SETI's science. 🙁 Right? >🙂

Just FYI, if you want to know a WU's angle range ahead of time in SetiQ, pick a WU, say qwork~12.3a3, and run the following at the DOS prompt:

find "angle_range" qwork~12.3a3

Some people I know shunt them to the OS that runs them the best... 😉

i had changed the number of days in my queue and then
i noticed this. my cluster at home is now doing about 25% more
wu than it normally does. so i am glad i have a bunch of these
wu.

all my home machines are now turning out around 60 wu a day.
and the avg's are getting under 4 hours for some machines.

i thing i should change my other setiq now.

Just had a much slower result from 1 of my sparcs so I don't know if all the easy WUs have gone now ?????????????
Still, I've just tucked away 130 or so WUs for a rainy day !!!

🙂

EDIT...

No, still getting fast completion times...
Get 'em downloaded !!!

Mine've been MUCH easier. Whereas perviously, I was getting about 7-8 HR WU's, recently, I've gotten several 5-6hr WU's, with some that finished in under 2 hours 😉 Now my average has dropped to about 6 hours ^_^

Looks like a lot of people are loading up their SetiQ's:

12/12 Tue 2:55pm SRV Too many reties trying to send setiq stats 🙂

And I just noticed "reties" is misspelled in the SetiQ program! :Q

From S@H tech page:

<< December 12, 2000

We've actually figured out what the problem is, and it took a while. The problem was actually related to something else that was reported on the newsgroups: Workunits with an angle range of 11.

The problem was that for some reason the telescope was slewing at high rate for several days. Of the last 1.6M workunits we generated, 780,000 were at an angle range of 11 to 12. These workunits complete in half the time that a normal work unit does. That means that our attempted connection rate went up by about 30%. Once these work units disappear from the disk the servers should get back to normal.

Right now there are 285562 of these high angle range workunits on disk (out of 633196 total). I'd expect they will be gone by some time tomorrow.

Hehe... Hopefully my queue at work is full. I moved about 300 WU's over and left it in the 70's. I've only got a wimpy dialup connection there but it's not going to stop until it gets into the mid 400's. 🙂 I did the same at home but only tucked away about 200. Being on cable I coulda got a lot more but I didn't want to be a hog. 😉

Funny thing is, as tough as this is on the SETI servers now it's going to give them a break when we all move the WU's back over and work off our queued WU's. I should have about 8 days worth stored so my queue isn't going to request any WU's for 3 days or so. I know, I know, I'm just trying to justify it. 😉

If only I could connect to the S@H servers.. havent been able to send in my last completed WU since it finnished sunday night.. its now late tuesday evening..

I have my SetiQ set to connect every night at 11:30 Mountain Time (one hour from now) and as of yet it has never had a problem connecting, so if you're having trouble, you may want to try that time (but not too many of you, or you'll make it so I can't connect!) 😉
