I hope this isn't a repost, I searched for Opteron.

Anyway, check out the real time pricing guide. Absolutely huge price drops. They're approaching respectable levels now.

A dually Opteron system isn't far off for me. Heck, I might order tonight. :D

Yea... I just did. You can get 2x242 for the same price as a 3400+ now. Thats awesome. If you ignore the board cost and ECC ram, then it is the exact same price. They are becoming closer to feasible. Now it is just a software compatibility issue. If anyone can tell me about this compatibility issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

About a week and a half ago I looked at the prices of the 200 models for a Duallie setup....

Last week - vs - Now (OEM prices)

240 = 190 vs 190 (0%)
242 = 276 vs 203 (-25%)
244 = 307 VS 397 (-25%)
246 = 634 VS 441 ( -30%)
248 = 825 VS 668 ( -17%)

I still wsh I could OC them like I can the Xeons and then I would go opteron...

I can get 2 xeons at 2.66ghz and possible with the M0 stepping get them to 3.3-3.4ghz.....That is going from 400 dollars in 2 chips and beating the 1600 dollar 2 chip 3.2ghz....

For non ocers this is big news....

I hope Xeons will try to price match and drop about 15-25%....I may try the 2.8ghz chips and go for 3.5ghz....
