All they really do is provide links to political tabloid journalism and a few of the latest breaking stories. Isn't that what we do here? It's like the enquirer of political news. I like to keep an eye on Drudge just because they are so quick at getting the latest stories but does Matt Drudge really deseve to be on C-span? I mean c'mon, the only service the guy provides is a link to the 3am girls.

Don't they break the ocassional story? I know I've seen some stories that were first on their first (off the top of my head, I believe the death of Christopher Reeves)

I think it would be more accurate to say that they hear about a breaking story, put out the

XXX DRUDGE REPORT BREAKING XXX

Followed by a summery of what the story will be, only coming through with the details when some other organization actually breaks the story and following that up by providing a link to the story.

If we didn't have Drudge we would only be dependent on the dis-information from Information Ministers Scott Mclellan and Fox.

It also gives idiots who don't know better something to quote when they want to think they sound authoritative, no matter how stupid it makes them look to people who know better than to accept anything Drudge says at face value.

You didn't specify that it had to do anything of benefit to anyone other than Drudge. :p

3.5 billion visits/year to his web site means he's doing something right......

he was the first to provide access/links to a huge spectrum of news sources, from Fox to the Village Voice, from Rush Limbaugh to the North Korea News Agency...he has made access to liberal and conservative media alike, readily available to all news junkies. He certainly can move a news article from obscurity to the front pages with a comment on his site. Yet he provides the link to the original material. He is in effect running his own editorial page, where he "editorializes" not by writing his own interpretation of events, but rather by bringing original stories attention, the "mainstream" media might otherwise choose to ignore.

he is a vanguard of the internet new revolution.

he's gonna be in history books one day as a example of how the internet completely changed news dissemination in the world. mark my words.

i love that he has newsflashes that turn out to not be true and then they just disappear. no retraction, no record.

Drudge's claim to fame is Monica Lewinski.

It's a case of even a blind pig getting an acorn once in a while. Nothing on his site since then is original.

when al gore was talking about "brown shirt" internet propagandists, he was referring to people like matt drudge. Al gore can't stand the guy. of course, neither can many of the folks at Fox News. Drudge is a conservative, but he ruffles a lot of feathers. For those of you who say he doesn't DO anything, sure he does. He leads the internet in breaking political news, and he is usually right. He breaks news before the papers and the 24 news networks. I check out drudgereport at least 2x a day, and so do most people i know, be they republican or democrat.
