I am trying to figure out how to move some industrial equipment I own to a new location about 300 miles away. It is a steel press that has a 4'x10' footprint, and is 8' tall. It weighs about 2000 lbs or so. I am moving a lot of other equipment too. I have looked into the typical rental places (Pentske, Budget, UHaul etc) and only a few have trucks with lift gates. None rent them for 1-way use. I don't think the press will even go on a lift gate. So does anyone have experience moving such heavy and awkward equipment? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hmm... is a particularly delicate object? That might be helpful to know. Anyways, my first thought is a landscape trailer. Not sure about the weight, I'm guessing it would be okay. They're big enough though, and low to the ground, which would help you load/unload.

We use professional riggers when we are moving equipment. 2,000 lbs sounds awfully light for a press. What tonnage is it? Do a search for local Rigging companies.

If you have a pickup, got a landscape trailer like Bane said

the question is....

would that be considered bulk?

EDIT:
call Roadway, forklift it in and out of the truck, all set

Third party logistics is probably going to be cheaper than calling Roadway, R&L, SAIA, whatnot directly- they can have some serious discounts with the same carriers.

If you do take that route, get your shipping class, weight, and dimensions right. These carriers have been on a warpath and quite nitpicky as of late with those sorts of charges.

One cubic foot of steel is approx. 500 lbs.

Is this a sheet metal stamping press? If so, How many tons?

Find an industrial transport company who can move it with a hiab.

I've had a hiab move even the most awkward industrial machines - including pipe bending machines which are about 15 feet long, and have about 1 ton on one corner, with the other three corners being very light.

I have helped move commercial refrigeration equipment with roughly the same same dimensions/weight. We lifted one end with a pry lever, inserted lengths of steel pipe underneath then rolled and scooted the equipment onto a dual axle trailer.

Once onto the pipes it is surprisingly easy to maneuver the weight. Just remember to place the first pipe near the center and use the fulcrum to your advantage when feeding more pipe as you roll it around.

Of course this manual method requires a loading dock nearly flush with your trailer as any sharp incline/decline will quickly shift an unmanageable weight burden back onto the people pushing.
