Anyone mount their monitors on the desk?

I have a single 19" monitor on a single arm mount on my desk, it does OK. I would have a dual like you linked except my Samsung monitor on the other side doesn't have VESA mounts.

It does hang just a tad... and I have that thing torqued DOWN! My suggestion is to get the shortest arms you can (and still work on your application) to limit the weight leverage against the mount, or keep them folded up as close to the mounting point as you can. I would guess the double mount would be better (equal weight on both sides...) but I don't know.

I haven't used a stand in almost 15 years. As soon as I saw how much room was wasted by a stand I bought a monitor arm. That started with my 19" Mitsubishi CRT. I loved how I had the space underneath my monitor freed up. Not to mention having the monitor close to my face. What Charlie said. I don't move the mount around once I have it where I want it. Currently, I use an Ergotronic monitor arm.

I use one of the Atdec dual mounts, that hooks onto the desk (a clamp). Saved a considerable amount of space on my desk. My only complaint is that it could be higher.

How about pole mounts? I have 2 monitors at work on stands and put a ream of paper under each one to get it higher. With no stands there would be more room. If I had an upright stand on the sides with a pole running horizontal, I would have all kinds of room under them.

Could try something like this:

Free standing. The base is flat. Looks nice.

I have a very old desk that is very deep looks about 40 inches deep and sticks out 5 inches in the front.
