desktop cases look heaps better with a monitor on top. why don't people use these instead of a tower? if any1 is using a desktop case with an overclocked CPU can you please post your CPU temp & case temp, thanx.
What is this "desktop?" We have no such word in our language...
Well, you are right, I can't recall seeing a single modded desktop case in this Forum. For myself, it might bug me to have the CD-ROM sliding out over my keyboard, but then again I have a shallow desk (kicks crummy desk). Other than that, I like putting blowholes on the side panel aimed at the CPU. All the same, I hope someone will post some pics of some hotrodded desktops too, it would be interesting to see some. If I were going to do one, I think I would try for an ultra-quiet case...
I don't know.. i prefer working on Towers, personally... I've helped someone mod their enligh desktop before, we enlarged hte rear exhaust for a 92mm fan... other than that, my desk has a cutout for a tower, so I use a tower cause its more covenient for me.
For some people, they need more than 3 5.25 inch bays, though, so that keeps them from using a desktop.
But seriusly its cheaper to put one together than to buy a complete kit. I spent about $160 for mine.
$35 video block from http://www.overclockershideout.com
$20 water block from http://www.coolchip.com
$40 transmission cooler from Advanced Autoparts
$35 for waterpump http://www.petsmart.com (used $10 off coupon)
$0 5 gallon bucket
$30 all hoses, fittings, splitters, and quick disconects
Alot of that is unnecesary for most people, like the disconnects that I spent $15 on, and all the Y's, 3 different sized tuping, an extremely overpriced block for my geforce, a 500 gallon/hour pump, next one I make will have a smaller pump, even with all the restricions I put in there it still churns out water pretty damn quick.
lets see I am running an overclocked p120 to 133 in my desktop case,. The internal temp is, hold on let me shove my hand inside (as I removed the 3 5 1/4 inch bay covers), room temp other mods include: removal of all slot covers for additional air flow, adding a serial connection through a slot so I can use a mouse with the machine, removal of all screws holding the case together for fast access to the internals, removal of the screws holding the power supply to the case for fast access to the connectors underneith.
What the h*ll is a desktop case?....It doesnt sound like my 6 Panaflo fans (2 of which are 120mm) and my 4 drives would fit in it!
But seriously.....i guess its the same reason you dont see many tricked -out Hyundais!
If your gonna mod something......start with a good base.
But seriously, if a desktop is all you need.......go for it.But i cant remember seeing one worth mentioning (or one at all for that matter).
I think you could line the perimeter with fans and it wouldnt do much good.........theres just no room in it!
