much less than that.
i found an HD off of hot deals for $60 after rebate
chip itself is around $30, 40.
case (i didnt do this) from the OP is $35
LCD around $50.

xbox of course you'll need. depending on whether you already have one, new one, refurb.
refurb isnt a bad idea seeing as how you're going to void the warranty by modding it anyway.
refurb is $120 maybe?
the apps are free.

all in all, still a good investment for a media box and whatever else you decide to do with it.
