Anyone make their own coffee at work?

My office has an espresso machine that makes coffee but it's really not good, even when we get decent beans, it still tastes mild. Does anyone make their own coffee at work and if so, what equipment do you have?

I used to have my own coffee grinder and French press at work for the same reason.

I do, I use the V60 pour over method or a chemex if more people want to drink from it.

I take coffee in a thermos. If I'm in the office, I also have a french press, but I usually just make instant.

It's not free. Your employer pays for it, which, in turn means they have less money to pay its employees, meaning less money for you.
Well, the alternative way to phrase it would be "I accept the payment offered by my employer" as opposed to "I told them to keep their money".

Wife makes it at home. Someone else makes it at work. Occasionally I'll pay someone at a coffee place to make some for me. I want to see how many years I can go without bothering to learn how to make coffee for myself. The one at work looks really complicated. There's like some sort of paper and measuring involved. If the guy who makes it quits or retires I think it might be easier to find another job that comes with someone who knows how to make coffee

I just made two pots. One with with the usual swill for the plebeians, and another pot of Kenyan light roast for members of the elite Premium Coffee club (signified by the PREMIUM label on the carafe).

I used to make it in a french press at home and bring it in, then if I needed more I used this little brew machine plugged in at my desk that makes up to 4 cups at once. I always grind the beans at home and bring them pre-measured in a little container.

Now I just use the pot for all my coffee. I like how hot it keeps it and I can pour out just a little at the time and have it nice and hot all the way to the bottom of the cup. I find that I care a lot more about the temperature than I do a perfect taste.

Starbucks French roast from costco. 2.5lbs for $15 on sale.

A friend convinced me to buy beans directly from S. America. I haven't roasted them yet but I'm curious.

I have a "5 cup" coffee maker on my desk, in a regular coffee mug it's about 2.5 cups.

Does it ever get cleaned/maintained?

I cleaned it out this weekend and changed all the filters but it still tastes the same. I think it boils down to the machine being an espresso machine, not a coffee machine. When it brews coffee it grinds the beans and then produces a very frothy cup of coffee.

Ah, I didn't realize you were describing a dual brewing machine.

Keurigs K55at work. But I use it just for the filtered hot water. I mix chocolate powder, instant coffee, creamer and sugar.
I have a hacked Keurig 2.0 K550 with a stainless steel thermal carafe at home. Typical non-brand coffee or chocolate flavors.

Used to, but work upgraded to a fresh premium blend coffee and expresso with option for decaf in the afternoon.

I'm too good now, working on scaling back coffee...

It is when you grind the beans. After grinding, coffee begins to dissipate the caffeine. Flavor is affected as well as taste. All the science in the world can only slow down this process. So when that flat of pods or stack of Maxwell House is sitting in warehouse it is only incrementally worse each day. I have ground $10 a pound stuff from Mr Bulky and have created the most satisfying combinations. Spending $25 a pound did not seem to as huge a step as the $20 grinder and $20 French Press.

Does keurig count? :p Other than K-cups I sometimes put my own grounds in the reusable k-cup filter. As convenient as K-cups are I hate the idea from an environmental standpoint so I try to avoid them. We do have a grinder too, I have not tried it yet. Been wanting to buy one for at home, which is funny since I got an email about my 10th anniversary at my workplace and I get to pick a gift. One of the options was a fairly fancy coffee grinder, I would not buy a fancy one like that myself, but figured why not, so I picked it. Can't wait to get it now. Will be for at home though, if I want to grind coffee I'll just use the cheap one at work. I've always just went with the powder coffee myself but I want to try beans I imagine it taste much better. I think even Tim Horton's grinds on site.

I typically buy small bags of good ground coffee out of convenience and try to use it quickly before it gets stale (a few days later). I have a Bunn coffee pot at home. It brews excellent coffee....very hot. I bought a few Contigo vacuum thermos mugs and will drink a cup at home, then bring a cup with me to the office. 16-20oz The mug keeps it very hot until after 10am...so I have plenty of time to drink it no matter how busy things get.

I used to do the Keurig thing like everyone else...the coffee tastes awful. Nespresso is better, but cost prohibitive from the model I want to get ($1300 for the unit and foil pods are about $.75 each). I was actually impressed with the soft pod system that Hamilton Beach sells: http://www.webstaurantstore.com/ham...D9JjOw8y0s5Q78EW7MNfSDGVPqk5GZli63xoCbaDw_wcB

They have those in the deluxe Disney hotels....they aren't bad and the coffee doesn't taste bad either. I can tell the difference between Keurig coffee and everything else because the pods have a flavor to them...hard to describe.

I dont understand how do you make your own coffee at work? Do you carry your own coffee machine like a hipster?
