Damn, I wasted 21 years of my life. Gyro is ridiculously good and I just found out about it.
Does anyone make them at home. I want to know if it will stink the house for a while because the spices used are pretty strong. Anyone know of a good recipe for beef and lamb mixed gyro?

no, but I get on frequently when getting something from the local plaza. I thinkn I eat more gyros than burgers.

Also, make sure to try doners, falafels and shawarmas, you'll probably love those as well.

Only had it once, while visiting Greece.
Sucker layed me out for two days.
Of course that could have been the bottle of ouzo. 😀

I had my first and only Gyro in Greece too, and I still remember it fondly to this day. Those suckers are about 10x better than any burger or hot dog we have here in the U.S.

Shawarma is good too
Gyros are like........well, hot dogs

Can you enlighten me with the main differences?
I think I got a beef-lamb gyro. It has a really well seasoned grounded beef-lamb. It comes in a pita bread with lettuces, onions, and tomatos. It has a really tasty sauce too.

I saw falafel in the menu as well, don't quite know the difference.

Oh man... Shawarma's are AWESOME!!! I used to get them for so cheap when I lived in Saudi.

Making real gyros is tough because you need a rotisserie to properly roast the ground lamb loaf. You should just get yourself some lamb cubes and make souvlaki instead. They're about the same as gyros except that the meat is better and easier to cook.

I had lamb souvlaki for lunch today.

Oh the pleasures of living less than a mile from Chicago's greektown. 😀
