or the other quest-based fiends?

I ask cuz I just tried sneaking through Sloan and the train tracks with a low level character. The bastards saw me even with a stealth boy. I ran (using Turbo) and tried to get to Camp McCarran, assuming the soldiers would either kill it or at least I'd be able to go thru a door and lose the deathclaw.

Not only couldnt they stop the thing but he proceeded to mutilate every fiend and soldier in the general vicinity. I felt bad for them, then thought maybe I could us it to my advantage against other foes.

By the time I visit McCarran I'm usually strong enough not to need help, but that sounds like it could be fun.

Dog lady: woof! Deathclaw: swipe!!! :: SPLATTER :: :: SPLATTER :: :: SPLATTER ::

Waaaay too dangerous to fuck around with those things, but can be fun :)

I managed to sneak past the bit you're talking about with a low level character once but it took a good few quicksaves and trial/error. Im surprised you managed to run all the way to mccarran without it catching up....

The game is a much more old school type of RPG and has many zones and areas that you can actually wander into and try and complete but are way out of your current level/abilities.

It's not like Skyrim where the whole world levels with you, or other RPGs that block off high level zones until you're ready, you can literally wander into dangerous areas and get your ass kicked, simply return when you're a higher level.

The deathclaws are SERIOUS BUSINESS, if you can use them vs your enemies then that's a great tactic but it's not required to complete the game, all the zones will become do-able once you've leveled up enough.

You evil people, i have already played this game through about 6 times with different builds and choices.. and you have to bring its awesomeness up again.. I damn you! damn you to play ... I don't know, Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny (remake on steam) in all its unplayable glory!

me too, I'm on 7 or 8 I think.

Its fun to see what a low level character can do. Sneaking past Sloan is a perfect example, it gives me easy access to the center of the map with all the food at the share croppers, gun runners, doctor usanagi, crimson caravan, in fact with the first quest done at crimson caravan I can pick up Cass at the mojave outpost, so in theory I could have a decent helper with an absolute minimum of combat and exploring. Then I can go clear out Primm and Nipton and work my way around to the casinos.

Hilarious! With the Project Nevada rebalancing, death claws remain scary throughout the game. Frankly I don't know how I'm going to get through that cave - last time around I blithely popped in with my riot shotgun without realizing how much more powerful death claws now were and the first one took my fool head off in one swipe. I never thought of leading one around to do my dirty work for me.

If you haven't played with the Willow companion mod yet that's an excuse for another playthrough. You can have her as an extra companion though I dropped ED-E for her and played mostly with Veronica last time.

She has a lot of scripting including a bunch of voice acting. There is even dialog tied to the main companion you're with, at least for Veronica.

That reminds me of my first Cazador encounter. "That's a funny looking Boatfly." Sting, sting, sting.....I'm dead.

That's ok. On my very first play through a Deathclaw somehow was in Goodsprings killing everyone and everything the moment I stepped outside once I got control of the character and could start playing. I must have died 100 times trying to figure out what to do and started looking online for FAQ's and walkthroughs before finally coming to the conclusion that the Deathclaw should not have been there and started over from scratch, and sure enough, no Deathclaw.

I think some of that unpredictableness is what makes them so fun :D

In Fallout 3, I had a Deathclaw show up outside the supermart that you are sent to for the survival guide quests, which is probably one of the first things you do in the game after leaving the vault and make it to Megaton City. Was fun watching it rip apart all the guys outside there, and I used it as cover to sneak inside.

I made the mistake of wandering north on my first run. Headed west to avoid Deathclaw territory, ended up in a certain former Khans camp....did not end well.

Cazadores are evil hell.

Even after you go thru the Big MT and get poison immunity they can still mess your face up.

lol!

I never finished New Vegas....some 80 hours in. I need to start a new game at some point and get to it.

Come to think of it, I need to play FO3, too. :hmm:

make sure you sign up for a free Nexus account, get the nexus mod manager, and download some of the most popular mods.

Yeah, I'm running roughly sixty mods are the moment. Playing through Bounties I at the moment, and about to start the Badlands mod. Some dang good stuff out there - for instance, I played through Beyond Boulder Dome (albeit on a buggy PC with a dying hard drive) and it's easily better than games for which I've spent good money.
