I rarely lose sound while gaming over HDMI but has happend a couple times. However on media I lose sound often. It just stops and if I flip inputs back and forth on the TV it comes back but then goes back out. Anyone have any issues like this? I know its not the TV because I have other HDMI stuff hooked up. I even tried switching to another HDMI input.

I haven't tried component yet. I've had it since Dec of last year. But has rarely been used the time I had it.

What kind of media are we talking about? It could be an issue with rendering it.

All I got is component and HDMI cables rest of the TV's don't have these. The media is AVI files, I even tried converting them with 360 media converting software which converted it to mpeg4.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that it was some sort of artifact introduced in the conversion process.

Well I've tried two Xbox 360's with same result. These certain avi files do it often. But others rarely do it as do games. My DVD player with the same files I've having issues with work perfect over HDMI on either of my two tv inputs. It has to be the 360's but whats causing it even with games?

Well is the HDMI going straight through to the TV or some kind of switch/receiver? That could cause it I suppose. Personally I don't use HDMI for audio since it doesn't support anything more than stereo sound over HDMI with the 360's HDMI output.

its going straight to the TV. Is there any difference over HDMI, component and VGA? Because it doesn't do it over VGA.

Well the audio is going to be going via optical or analog outputs for VGA or component and not via the VGA or component cables.

That partially depends on the TV set. Personally I don't notice a difference on my Samsung DLP but you might. Lots of people seem to like VGA though.
