About 3.5 million.
About half of that is in the Portland area.

Ha! I'm not sure what criteria you use... But it's definitely not the same as mine. :p

He must be using one of the following criteria where CA > Oregon is indeed true:
Population
Traffic
Crime
Pollution
Housing prices
Illegal immigrants

Yeah, but give it time.

With all the folks moving here from (you know where) things are definitely changing. And not for the better.

It sure isn't the Oregon I remember from the 70's :(

It's worse up here, man. May 5th is TORTURE. You can't get anywhere here. The streets get all clogged up with people marching in a parade. Surprisingly ( ), they're 99% hispanic. The same thing happens on easter. My yard gets LITTERED with garbage. :|

Bah. We've got plenty of green here! Of course, it's almost all in golf courses for all the snowbirds that come here in the wintertime to escape their rain/snow ;)

To be truthful, I was talking about Californians.
But you're right about the rest as well.
The LEAST they could do is learn to speak English.

At least 50% of the folks from California seem to have a loose grasp on it.... ;)

Hey now, be nice.
I'm a California transplant to Oregon.

Of course I was only 2 years old and it was 1973, so you can't really get mad at me about it.:D

Another resident, right in the SW Metro area.

I suggest checking OregonLive for Metro area classifieds, but local city papers if you're further south (like Salem, Corvallis, Eugene).

I lived on the East coast for a while and that's a common misconception. Much of Oregon is rural, but unlike ND we have a relatively large city in Portland which makes us a medium-sized state in terms of population.

Portland was the 23rd largest metro area in the US as of 2000 and I know it's grown fairly rapidly since then.

if i hear something back, there will soon be another Oregonian.

i applied for a job in Newport. They really really really should hire me.

Texas or Oklahoma vs Oregon isnt a hard choice to make.

You're kidding right? More like Colorado class (if you had to pick any of them).

And it "Ore-uh-gun" please. Saying "Ore-GON" inside the state could bring out a lynch mob ;)

Al010101, what "Oregon forum" did you post in where you met such nasty people, and just WHERE in Oregon are you moving to? It's a pretty big state, but half the population lives within 30 miles of downtown Portland.

I'm another Not So Great AT Oregonian (currently west of Portland.) Most of us pronounce it OR ee gun.*

We have our share of hillbilly rednecks and ignorant foaming at the mouth fundies, but they are very much in the minority. Many Oregonians are perceived as unfriendly when met face to face, but we're actually just very reserved and don't mean to come across that way. We also tend to be very independent and self-reliant.

*Edit: though we pronounce Oregonian as "or uh GO nee un."

I am from Or y gun also, I have lived here and also Cali for knee a. I can say that if you are looking for a place that the weather is not the same everday then this is your state, even if we have a starbucks on every corner.
