Anyone live in or near LA CA

Hi,

I'm looking into visiting LA over spring break or summer '06. I've felt called to go to CA (LA more specifically) for the past couple years. Anyone live near there tell me more about it? To get a good taste of LA what should I do or see while I'm out t here? If I like it out there I may move out there one day. Farthest West I've ever been so far is Utah so I hardly know anything about CA. Any input is appreciated.

Both of the above fast food places are great 🙂 I live near LA, and there are only a few things I can think of that are interesting - concerts or chillin' at the beach. LA itself is usually pretty dirty and beat up, in the overall scheme of California.

What's it like to live out there. Easy to get a job and a place to live cheap??? If I was there for a week would there be plenty to do? P.S. whre is stanford in relation to LA and whats it like?

Easy to get a job - questionable
Cheap - No way!

Plenty to do - of course.

Stanford, about 400 miles north.

I <3 LA.

It's expensive as hell to live and it depends entirely on what you do whether or not you can find work easily.

I lived there for 6 years, met and married my wife and then moved to San Diego for a job. I have friends and In-Laws in L.A./Orange County and visit there once or twice a month but I have no desire to move back up there.

you have to be making in the hundreds of thousands a year to afford a house like that..

I personally prefer northern california than southern california

house prices here are farkin expensive.. decent condos start from 350 ish... crappy houses easily go for 700k ish

with houses so expensive then what is the going minimage avg. wage? $15? dang. SO what its like for a 1 person apartment in a moderately clean, not rich, part of town cost wise?

minimum wage is still around 7.50

keep in mind that real LA is NOWHERE like what they portray in movies and tv shows. Yes you can go to malibu, or belvery hills to see the beautiful houses, but only a small percentage of people can live like this.

one bedroom apartment in a decent part of town can go anywhere from 1000 to 1500.

Check out craigslist (which is huge in LA) to get a good idea what rent is like.

Best fast food: El Pollo Loco.

I could ask my Mom-In-Law, she owns a few apartment buildings in the South Bay. I might not get back to you for a few days though.

I live 1 minute away from one. I loveee that place!!

Go to the beach! Huntington, venice, and my favorite Corona del mar. Go to the amusement parks like disney, knotts and raging waters in the summer. Queen mary/aquarium of the pacific are fun. There are good restuarants everywhere.

If you're interested in Stanford, fly to San Francisco or San Jose (the latter is closer; Stanford's in Palo Alto) instead unless you'd like to drive 6 hours up 101 to get there. SF will also be closer to places like Yosemite and Lake Tahoe should you want to venture into the Sierra.

Other than that, I'm bad to ask for advice--I live in Fresno (inland, between SF and LA--it's a largely depressing city that regularly hits 100-degree highs in summer with much smog, but at least there's no traffic) and hardly get out of here.
