Me too. I tried getting a job there but no one wants to move a 5 person family from the US to NZ or even Australia. :(

I'm not ready to retire yet, I'm only 34, but a nice quiet place to raise my family would be just the thing. My wife and I have no need of clubs to enjoy a "night life". ;)

I wish.

If I lived there I would either want to be independantly wealthy or retired. Why work in such a beautiful country?

I studied in NZ for a semester, and the night life really depends on where you are. Yea, lots of farmland and such, that's not too exciting. But if you go to the bigger cities, there's plenty to do at night. Dunedin is a college down, lots of pubs, lots of drunken Kiwis (and drunken Americans studying abroad   )

My dad's dad lives there, he likes it. Similar to Oregon (moderate climate, wine country, etc.).

Christmas day everyone goes to the beach.

Never been there myself, & don't really plan on going any time soon.

No. Nobody lives in new zeland. Stop asking.

They talked about sedning explorers there, but decided that 'we had problems at home' and there was no reason to explore.

Hah! Surely I can't be the only kiwi on ATOT.

No seriously. Where are the rest? I feel vulnerable over here :p

Oh, and in response to the OP - yes, it's a very nice country :)
As long as you don't want affordable broadband, that is... but I can't imagine anyone here needing broadband, right?

To give you an idea of what we've got, the best plan in Auckland would be 256k ADSL with a 10 gig cap, after which it gets throttled to 56k speeds. That's $65 a month, or about $43 USD. Anything higher speed and you pretty much have to pay by the megabyte.

That aspect sucks, but everything else is good. Best part = no dangerous pests/animals/insects :)

Talking about kiwis (the fruit that is), someone told me that they rub off the fuzz and eat the skin. Blah. Is that common?

The darn things are hard to peel. I just cut them in half and scoop the fruit out with a spoon.

That sucks about the net, but yeah, much fewer dangerous dangerous animals than Australia. I bet plane tickets are expensive to NZ. If they werent too bad, Id go.

That's what I do. Eating the skin would be like trying to eat a pair of woollen gloves :/

New Zealand a socialist welfare state!? You've got to be joking! It has the third most open economy in the world. Basically nothing is government owned. We barely even have any work unions. The mere thought of government regulations disgusts most of us.
