Anyone live in Las Vegas? I'm thinking about moving there from Ohio.

I recently graduated from Ohio State in Business Marketing; now I'm looking to go have some fun! (Professionally, of course :^). I'm looking for a small apartment, and of course, a job w/ health, benefits, etc. I'm a young guy (24) and I have an old cat. Thanks for any input! Email/contact info would be great too.

I live in Reno, NV which is the next biggest city in Nevada next to Vegas and well...this state blows. The people here suck and there is nothing to do. Vegas might be "fun" cuz that is what you think of when someone mentions Vegas but it has a LOT of slummy areas. If you ever spent more than a weekend in that town u would know that it is a trashy place.

Other than that Nevada doesn't have state income tax which is really cool but other than that this place has nothing. I'd recommend going to LA or some other place.

only place in Nevada i would consider living is Stateline. it's basically South Lake Tahoe, except that it's on Nevada side. i love the place (i grew up near Lake Tahoe), especially the ski resorts and the beautiful lake. plenty of things to do, like biking, hiking, camping, fishing... outdoor stuff.

please don't consider gambling as one of your "fun" activities, or as a reason to move to Nevada. it's fun if you do it on your vacation, but if you're going to do it regularly, you'll be in poor house in no time.

Thanks for the input... I do like Columbus, but I'm looking for a change. Fisher College does rule, regardless. :^)

For employment, I would start looking at the local casinos. They may be able to use the business and/or marketing skills you gained in college. Of course, there are many service-oriented jobs like waiting on tables, etc. that are available.

MGM Mirage Employment Opportunities-For MGM Grand, Mirage, Bellagio, Treasure Island, etc.

Park Place Entertainment Jobs-For Paris Hotel, Las Vegas Hilton, Flamingo Hotel, Caesars Palace

Mandalay Resorts website-For Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur and Circus Circus

Those links should cover most of the major casinos.

As for housing costs, it is cheaper there than many places. Gas may be a little higher as well as car insurance costs.

I don't know what you like to do, but if your idea of fun is going outdoors, there are a few places you can go (assuming it isn't 109 like on Wed.). There is Lake Mead if you want to go boating. There is Mt. Charleston if you want to avoid the heat and see what is in our local mountains. There is also the nightlife and concerts because of the local casinos here. If you're looking for intellectually stimulating places like museums however, there isn't much. The library system is decent.

How do I know this? I was born in LV and lived there until I went off to college 7 years ago. My mom and other relatives still live there. I was considering coming back, but I wanted to stay here in California.

Before I forget, here is a relocation guide from the local newspaper:

PM me if you would like more information.

I lived in Vegas from 1990-97. I really liked it at first...tons of jobs, not too many people, it still had the "Sin City" appeal, etc. Starting around 1994 everything went to crap. The population had doubled, people were moving in faster than jobs could be created, prices were climbing. When I moved there you had to decide WHICH casino you wanted to go to for your $.99 steak and eggs breakfast. Now you have to search for a place with a $5.99 steak and eggs breakfast. Car insurance is high, rent is high, gas is expensive...I could go on, but you probably get the point.

Stay in Ohio... i was born in Columbus, but have lived in Vermont for the past 18 years.... I am about to go back there though and trasfer to OSU... GO BUCKS!

Thanks everyone. Maybe I should go to Florida instead. I lived in Tampa when I was little (2 y/o) so there's the nostalgia factor. I also vacationed on Anna Maria Island. Wow, maybe I should move there. 🙂

I would love to live in Vegas one day ... just for the fact they have incredible golf courses for cheap when you are a resident🙂

Las Vegas is one of the places I'd love to retire in... I'm actually thinking about buying a place just to go to a couple months a year...I pretty much go there once a year and aside from the weather and Sin City appeal, property tax is cheap too...
