Anyone listen to Coheed and Cambria here?

Picked it up and it took like a listen or two for me to love it. My favorites on there have to be Gunslingers, No World for Tomorrow, and Justice in Murder. New sound but still great imo.

I've tried to give these guys a chance but I cannot stand the vocals. Cool riffs awful vox.

absolutely love the band. Had the deluxe album in my hands Saturday (pre-ordered). Also has all 4 band members signatures on an extra lyric booklet since I was one of the first 1000 pre-orders.
in short, they are amazing. They are an extremely talented band, and it's nice because Mic Todd (bassist) has gotten some extra attention this album and really comes around and lays down some great bass rhythms. Travis and Claudio, as always, have some great guitar work all across the album. And some great throwbacks to earlier stuff mixed in throughout. :)

and he's not really fat, well at least he's slimmed down since the early Co&Ca days. His hair, as always, is awesome. :D
He has a great range of vocal styles though, and you see it most in this new album. Especially love Track 11 - The End Complete. His screaming is awesome.

Do yourself a favor and try the new black lips album.

why does it baffle? Because a band has higher pitched vocals, means they suck?
at least recognize they have great musical ability. doesn't mean you have to like them. It's like recognizing Rush is a talented band, but not liking them.

I've grown to appreciate the vocals. I think they were more high pitched in the In Keeping Secrets album

IKSSE3 was definitely a higher pitched album, and a good portion of SSTB was also somewhat higher pitched.

as far as the deluxe album, it's pretty nice but not really necessary. The bonus dvd has a couple demos, which some are pretty cool to hear the conceptual side, sadly no material from the new album is included, well other than a video of an acoustic performance of Mother Superior. The making of a 22 minute feature and is pretty funny at times and shows some of the beginnings of different segments of assorted songs, on the different instruments. Cool bonus though is a jam session, with Claudio on synth, and Mic and Travis both on acoustic guitar. Mic is apparently a pretty good guitar player (he's the bassist).
I'm not sure of the price difference, so I have no clue. I felt it would be a cool thing to own, and comes in a nice package. Quad-fold box, with artwork across the middle.

i used to think so, too, the first time i heard them. then, i listened through their entire newbie album and i just "got it" or something... i dunno. it sounded awesome. at first, i was like "wtf? i hate the vocals... wtf is he, geddy lee or a woman?"... then, after listening to the whole album, i realized that the vocals and music are actually awesome together.

edit: by the way, this was back when chris pennie was only in dillinger escape plan... not yet in coheed.

yea, his voice will change with each song, especially now. The vocals for Mother Superior every review has been calling angelic. lol
but seriously, his voice goes perfectly hand-in-hand with the instrumentation of the band and specifically the lyrics, and depending on the lyrical meaning of a song, his voice is a little different.

exactly.

and when you understand that each album is just part of a storyline, it makes listening to the albums sweeter.

funny. so your friend was getting lessons from Chris Pennie, and you saw Coheed play in Jersey? Funny that things came together and Chris is now with Coheed starting this year. He is an amazing drummer.

this took place YEARS ago... i think about 6 or so years ago.

in my opinion, chris is the best drummer out there (from everything i've hear thus far). i've yet to hear anyone as precise, intuitive, and theoretical.

Oh, I understood that much. I was just looking at the comedy of the situation, now knowing that Chris is with the band.
I saw DEP open a couple years back for Coheed, and while I wasn't really a fan of the music, the technicality of the instrumentation was cool and Chris was great. I didn't know who he was at the time though. If only, because I could have appreciated the band just a little bit more by focusing intently on the drums.

makes sense. That was about the time period Co&Ca was switching over from Shabutie to Coheed and Cambria. Was 'Second Stage Turbine Blade' out at the point when they were playing gigs in New Jersey?
