I was listening to Apocalyptica one day, and my roomate walks in and goes "Apocalyptica, huh?" and I looked at him and said "yep" and he said "well aren't you impressed that I've heard of them?" and I said "do you want a cookie?" and it was really funny, at least to me.
LOL!! That was cold. Nicely done
Anyway, I just got their latest album, Reflections, and just finished listening to it. Definetly metal on chellos. Unique, no question.
Like cult, they've pulled away from pure cellos for all their songs, though it's only a light complement here and there. It mostly consists of nice drum work that shows up from song to song. For those that liked Toreador on Inquesition Symphony, you'll like the sequel. At first I thought No Education would be their take of Another Brick in the Wall (part 2) but I was wrong. The variation in the songs is great, too. Prologue (Apprehension) is fast and hard, Faraway is sweeping and uplifting. Wonderful. Alas, no songs I could identify as Metallica. Of course I only have 6 of their albums.
At any rate, the album is excellent. Like Cult, and unlike the first two, the cellos are no longer the lone instruments, but they're definetly the dominant ones. The best part is that unlike Metallica's latest album, (and a lot of other cookie cutter groups today) Apocalyptica shows real creativity. Each song is quite distinct and the group is not afraid to slow things down from loud and angry to moody and introspective if they want to.
This is the first new CD I've bought in probably over a year, but it was definetly worth it.

I've learnt never to criticise another person's music tastes. Of course, techno and rap can't be classified as music, let alone taste (or the lack of).
