I not really a metal fan but I do like sinister riffs and well done metal rhythm and leads. I heard of A7X back in 2005 when City of Evil came out but was kind of turned off by their looks and it sounded a little too shreddy for me at the time.

Anyway, I subscribed to Spotify this week and have had CoE on constant rotation the last couple of days. Amazing album! So pissed I blew it off when it came out because I could have listened to it all these years.

I've been in a rut with music since like, forever, and this is the first band that made me want to listen to anything modern. They're not even metal, just good hard rock with a modern heavy vibe. Dig the Bill and Ted leads too.

Couldn't get into the other albums so far, but CoE is damn amazing.

i like the singer and the guitarist is super talented. drummer OD'd, as always, mike portnoy from dream theater filled in on their last album.

ever listened to all that remains? 'for we are many' i think is still their latest; great disc. prolly my favorite next to fall of ideals.

They have two songs that I like. I bought Nightmare since MP played drums.

The lead guitarist is really good, but I don't care for most of their material and their "heavy metal" wannabe image...

damn people, they're not nickelback. A7X is arguably about the best band around that actually gets radio airplay (unfortunately that means playing their often shittiest songs to death).

were you waiting for me?

I  A7X.

Like most of their stuff, I like varying styles. But my favorites are Walking the Fallen, City of Evil, then Nightmare.
Walking the Fallen or City of Evil I'll say are my number 1 in the same breath, so I can't really order them. So different yet so amazing.

Nightmare was a little good, but overall just a slight bit lacking sometimes. Songs on their I love right up there with all their best songs, but other songs I find a little boring.
The lyrical drive has been missing a little I feel too. Walking the Fallen had a lot of great writing and stories, and City of Evil had awesome stories. Plus, CoE just had that "epic" feel to it that the music really dug into and sounded almost like some kind of epic-war-fantasy movie score. I dug that.

Nightmare felt like it was trying to reach CoE in scope but overall fell quite short. I was disappointed with Portnoy too, I figured some of the music was going to get a little crazy.
Not a bad album, I'll still listen to it start to finish at times but prefer their older stuff. A few songs from their self-titled.
Also wasn't a huge fan of their very first release. You might dig it though.

FFS. anyone who doesn't like them should DIAF.

thrice has like a million different "sounds" they can play apparently.

Their first couple albums I played non-stop for so long when I first discovered them, which was right after Vheissu. Not a big fan of that album, the albums before I was nuts over at first. I've dialed it back a bit lately. Artist in the Ambulance is probably my favorite album of theirs, and I like their some of their more recent stuff, especially the concept albums.

The self titled album and City of Evil was epic. Not liking their new direction. Seems way over produced with the vocals mixed way too high.

their variation is what makes them so goddamned awesome. that and being fantastic live. while they have certainly evolved significantly since pre-vheissu, they're still the same band. personally, i don't know how anyone can not like vheissu...it's just earlier thrice plus a bit of prog rock. then they really killed it with the alchemy index. at least give the fire and air CD's a listen.

Their image is what turned me off to A7X the first time I heard of them. They were on the cover of AP and looked like boy band with dyed hair and tats.

I guess if you want to get signed and promoted these days, images goes a long way, unfortunately.

Liked them even more when the Rev was still around, of course, but yep, good band overall.

You know, I never understood that either.

My older sister loved Korn back in high school, when she also loved the stereotypical bands that a teenage girl would.

Looking back on it, it just doesn't make sense.
