Anyone leasing a mini-cooper? Update: 7/5 Picking up Car on 7/6

Thinking of getting one. My current car is ready to go any moment, after 130k miles and 9years.

A Mini seems to be on the price range I want to spend. Yes it small, but I live in Chicago so it works out for me alright.

Just wondering what kind of pricing people are getting.

Thanks.

If your car has gone 9 years and 130k without dying, I highly doubt it's about to "go at any moment", but if you have t oget a new car don't lease. And if you have to get a new car don't buy a mini. PLEASE!

My friend recently got a mini. It came with quite a few options and came out just under 20k. She pays approximately $350/month. Not sure what her apr is.

Why oh why would you want to lease? You're just paying to rent the car.... you're PAYING for something you'll never own.

BTW, a mini is a great car.

exactly I don't want to own a car. I want to rent for 3 years then get a new one.

As opposed to saving so much money by buying a rapidly depreciating asset?

Lease rates are usually based on the estimated resale value after the lease is up. An "average" car loses half its value in 3-4 years. I'd think a Mini would keep resale value fairly well since its still a fairly "in-demand" car. But saying it doesn't and you took out a 36 month lease, you're probably looking at about spreading 10k over the 3 years, which should come out to about $275/month for a lease. Less if you lease for longer, more if you lease for shorter. But thats probably a ballpark figure you'd be looking at. The might jack it up a bit though since from what I've heard they are in fairly high demand now.

You should compare what it would cost to lease a car vs how much it would cost to purchase the car then sell it...

Why is it a waste money?

Cars go down in value, become un-reliable with time. And thats what I don't want. I don't want to own a car for 6 years and then i'm the mechanic a few times a year with something. Be an Oxygen sensor or a belt...i don't want that.

I want car for 3 years, when I get bored then its time for a new one.

If you're absolutely postive you're gonna get a new car in 3 years then leasing is a better option. But you never know, things change. You could like the vehicle and want to keep it for more than 3 years. I doubt a mini will start to break down after only 5 years.

For the waste of money part, read this and get back to me: Text

You must exampled why it's a waste of money. Keep a new car (while losing new car depreciation) for the rest of your life because you're afraid of an O2 sensor or belt? I used to be scared of cars too, but there is no reason not to have a slightly older car - and have it reliable. You can drive something like a minicooper for the rest of your life, or something much nicer/better if you're willing to keep it for 6 years instead of 3. That's simple math.

I have a MiniCooper S which cost less than 23K out the door (taxes, fees, etc included). If you take it out for about 6-7 years (becoming the standard for 20K+ cars now), you will be in the $400/mo range. My Mother and I both purchased/ordered ours on the same day approximately 4 weeks before production began on the '04's. It took 2.5 months for it to arrive. Don't let them talk you into the Navigation package because it's pretty much useless but the Moon Roof is a must! I opted for the 16in wheels (standard) instead of the 17in because I didn't like the way they looked.

Anyway....the car is a lot bigger inside than most people would think, the fit and finish is superb (think BMW), and it is a BLAST to drive (not to mention you can/will embarrass many a 6cyl Mustang owners and 99% of the 'tuner crowd'). The Mini may not be for everyone but I love it.

Here's some pics of my car and my mom's car right after we got them.

Mini Coopers

PS: You should really think of buying as opposed to leasing. Mini Cooper S's tend to keep a large percentage of their resale value. When I bought mine, I had the choice of buying an '03 with the same options (and 5k miles) for only 1k less than what I paid for my '04 (that I 'built' myself).

I'll be going to the dealership on Saturday. I want an S type with sunroof...we'll see what other options I like and can get.

Hmm Why would you say a car with 130k/9 years is not going to go any minute.

Lets see its a ford explorer, in the last 2 weeks I've had some small problems...like the hose for the window washers cracked and started leaking..not a biggie just annoying.

Had a radiator problem. Was leaking in a hose or something....car was running hotter than usual.

Started making some kind of noise in the left front tired.

I am tired of it....who knows what is coming next.

Thats why it is always best to BUY a 2 or 3year old car

MINI leases are very cheap compared to most cars, because of their resale. Residual value is a large portion of configuring a lease payment. My MINI is still worth exactly what I paid for it 7 months ago with 10k miles. I'm considering selling the Cooper to buy a Cooper S cabrio in the next few months.

"...Yes it small, but I live in Chicago..."

The few times I've driven through Chicago was a GD nail biter every time. No fvcking way I'd want to do it in a tiny toy like that... especially on a regular basis!

My car's 12 Y.O. w/ 150k plus miles, and it certainly isn't going any minute. Probably gonna get another 10 years on this thing.
