The simpsons second season is only like 40$ and even sex and the city is under 40$

Every season set (practically) is under 40$ but x-files every season is 120- 150$

Any clue why?

Take a look at this EBay thread... what do you think of this?

Simpsons are half as long as X-Files, Sex and the City has half as many episodes. A more fair comparison is against the Star Trek: TNG boxsets.

Dave has a point. An average season for most shows has around 20-25 episodes. Since X-Files is an hour long show, it's twice the length of a 30 min show like the Simpsons. double the episode time roughly equals double the number of DVDs per season set.

Eh, besides, I just bought the Band of Brothers set. Much better series, and chances are it won't be in re-runs on 4 stations for the next 10 years.

They charge 3x the cost for creating and selling 2x the content.

So purely on a quantity basis the price should only be double the cost of a Simpsons set instead of the three times cost they're charging. But of course they're a business so they try to guess what the market will bear and set a price to maximize profits.

That's probably why the Babylon 5 and Stargate sets are priced more in line with the Simpsons, some marketing research people decided that B5/Stargate fans were less willing to pay $120 a set than the X-File fanatics. So the reward for greater loyalty is getting to pay more. Kind of like choosing Microsoft OS and Office for your corporation :)

I noticed this the other day,
Star Trek ~100
X-files ~100
Sopranos ~40
Simpsons ~40

I think they have it in for the geeks.

I need to get Season 2. The first 5 seasons rocked.

If you don't wanna pay the full price:

1) Ebay

or

2) Total Action Universe

Total action universe is located in Canada though. I've ordered the Season 2 and 3 from them with no problems and got em for almost 1/2 the U.S. price. On the site it's listed on both Canadian and U.S. price, but when you add it to the cart, it only lists Canadian price, but after you order it, they convert it to the U.S. price. If you're in doubt, call em up and order it over the phone. I'm ordering Season 1, 5 and 6 from them.

Do you KNOW how much it costs to go clubbing every weekend? I can EASILY spend 70$ one eve'. And I go out friday AND saturday, so that's 140$ about in a weekend. Believe, it's gettin' quite expensive :)

clubbing is expensive. Personally I only feel the urge to do it about once every 3 or 4 months... but im married and not looking to score.... :p (well accept with my wife but I dont need to go to the club to do that.)

Honestly the scene kind of grates on me... music is too loud, too many dumb people smoking and killing my lungs, and nothing really to do but try to score....

however some people like to do it just to dance.. but that doesnt cost you 70$ a night

Anyway

back on topic..

Im sure x-files also has MUCH higher production costs than the simpsons and it's ilk. I can see maybe 80$ but 150$ seems kind of outrageous....

oh well. I want to buy them all but no way I have the money for it.

Hey anyone know what season mulder started phasing out and they brought on the lam liquid metal bozo?

The X-Files DVD sets are way more expensive in the US than in Canada for some reason. They cost the same in both places except one of those prices is in US dollars and one is in CDN dollars. :)

but do they really put 2x the eps per dvd? sometimes tv dvds try to cram too many eps on a dvd, resulting in lower picture quality, very annoying:p that and was xfiles filmed on err film? originally?

sex and the city seems to be, so the transfer is quite good.

oddly enough star trek the original series seems to be from film too, its damn crisp:)
