Anyone know why my email gets stuck while checking it...

Im connecting to my schools mail server (pop3 account) through Outlook Express (in XP).

None of my friends seem to get stuck connecting to the same server, just me. It sits on 'Authorizing' for a good two to three minutes before slowly d/l's the messages...

Any ideas?
 
Are you connecting through the internet, or onsite through their lan? Can you try one of your friends username and password and see if it is as slow? Try your username and pw on one of your friends computers? Setup a new account from scratch on a new install of OE, or get OfficeXP...
Try to ping their mail server, see what kind of response you get.
 
what kind of authorization does your university require? i bet your computer is just getting rejected, and trying different methods until something goes through.
