Anyone know why I can't get dual channel RAM with my Asus A8V?

I have 2 sticks of Crucial PC2100 256MB DDR RAM. 266Mhz, CL 2.5 (2.5, 3, 3, 6), ECC
Asus A8V Rev 2.0 with a AMD64 3000+ 939. I've tried the 1007, 1008 and the 1009 beta bios.

The computer boots fine with a single stick in the B1 slot as it should. It also boots fine with 2 sticks in single channel mode having them installed on B1 and B2.

I can't get the proper config of A1 and B1 in order to get dual channel though. The RAM sticks are identical and they both work just fine on their own or together when in single channel mode.

Thank you for your help.

I have a different board, the A7N8X. However I only have 1 stick of ram (512). Its in slot 1.

If I had another stick, I would put it in slot 3 though, the slot thats by itself. I think then the dual channel would be activated? Perhaps your board is similar. Try putting a stick in slot 1, and in slot 3. Then again I have no idea what your board is like, but since it was Asus I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

** I just looked at the pic of the A8V, and you have 4 slots whereas the A7N8X only has 3. So my newb advice is probably crap. Its fun anyway. 🙂

Yeah A1 & B1 or A2 & B2 or all four should be dual channel.

Maybe it's just picky about memory? There is a list of compatible memory at ASUS.
