And it happens with the 'preparing network settings' dialog. I've even tried to get into it with safe mode, but with the same results :(

I couldn't get into my machine at all and had to reinstall :|

Does anyone have any ideas or experienced similar problems? Any help would be appreciated :)

Cheers :)

well it use to do that to me when i installed the sp1 without making backup option. I redownloaded a copy from MS a while ago and this one works even without the backup option. perhaps MS realized there was a problem with their original release and corrected it. Who knows.

Maybe I'll try it without the backup option lilstevo, but I'm really afraid to have another unworkable partition

install a second copy of win2k on a different partition and experiment with that one.

Anytime something screws up Win2K simply boot from the CDROM and repair the installation. Has worked every time for me! Don't be so quick to simply reinstall everything.

Haha, yes I wish that were always true. Wait until a drive GUID changes as it did here, then that magical repair option won't fix a damned thing.

Please don't misinterpret this as argumentative toward anyone in this thread, rather I'm just a teency-weency bit peeved at Win2k right now.

Best regards,
Floyd

This happened to my work machine (BAD!) and reinstalling was not an option. I found that if I wait for 15 min or so it would actually get past that apparent freeze. I ended up doing a repair installation from the Win2K disk and it fixed the problem
