Anyone know why a widescreen dell laptop would occassionally revert to its maximum resolution on reboot?

I have a user who thinks my world should stop to figure out why this is happening. First she accused my staff of "hacking" her and now she wants her laptop sent out for warranty service. If this was a mac, I'd' suspect a corrupted P-RAM and I'd reset it, but I don't have any idea what could cause this in XP. Any ideas?

I don't understand the problem. Are you running the laptop at a non-native resolution, and it's reverting back to native when you reboot? Usually the "maximum" resolution of an LCD panel is the native one, which is what you should run it at. Also, knowing the model and the installed video card would be helpful...
