Anyone know where to find goggles that will shield me from a 1000watt lightbulb?

I know this sounds crazy, but I need to find some goggles that will allow me to sit 15 inches from a 1000 watt metal halide lamp (ie stadium lighting) without going blind. Ideally they would block out all light and only cover my eyes - not the rest of my face. Any ideas?

i was going ot say a welding mask but that covers your whole face... and why are you sitting so close to it?

Doug, what kinda crazy thing are you trying to do now?

I hope this is *not* an unjacketed lamp! If it is, you will be seriously burned from shortwave UV (UV-C) rays! 1kW Hg arc at 45 cm = smell of burning flesh in <60 seconds.

Brazing googles (No. 5) will work nicely.

you can get 5 or 6 different shades of welding goggles usually used for oxy-acetylene welding or you can get lcd goggles that go dark the second light hits them, just dont use them when it is cold out.

I'm trying to recreate this new thing they have out called the "Clearlight Acne Photo System." The machine costs $50,000 and dermatologists charge like $500 to use it, but if you search the internet and look at the original trials all they did was have people sit in front of a 400 watt metal halide lamp. So I'm just using 1000 watts to be on the safe side. Hehe.

Gawd, you're such a cheap bastard.

I'm putting some UV shielded glass under the lamp so I shouldn't get burned.
Are you sure you aren't going to be putting anything else under the lamp? 😉

if the machine was a few hundred dollars I could understand you calling him a cheap bastard but trying to save 50,000 dollars is not cheap, its alot of money.

I'm calling him a cheap bastard becuase he refuses to give money to the doctor for the procedure. I KNOW he can afford it, oh, and give me back my calculator ass.

If you knew how much the piano I just cost you could eat that last statement. Anyways it will be a cool science experiment.

And have you really not gotten your calculator back? Ben said you didn't want it or something. My mom said she would be happy to mail you one if you want it.

Hmm I wonder if that would work. Although 1000watt metal halide bulb is going to be a tad more intense than a 40watt flourescent tube! Do those block out all light?

first off, I imagine that if you lined any goggles really well with aluminum foil, you'd be alright.

Second....I suspect you will receive a darwin award shortly.
