Anyone know where to find a shallow height, shallow depth over the range microwave?

Our OTR microwave played out, so we got a new one. To my surprise this one is much bigger than the previous model. I have been looking around and it seems that all the microwaves are now close to 16Hx16Dx29+ wide. The wide is fine, but the height and depth are too big. I have looked at others cabinets and our cabinets are 5 inches lower as the builder gave us larger cabinets above the range, but now they make all microwaves bigger, so it sits too low and out to far over our range. I hate to put one on the counter, but I don't want to have to redo the cabinet to fit a microwave either. Anyone know somewhere to buy a microwave that is 15Hx14D?

probably a hard fit...with larger cabinets you are supposed to go up with them, not down towards the range.

What brand/model did you have before?

The depth should be the same either way though...

I have searched everywhere for a model like we had. It seems everyone is making them pretty much the same size these days. I think we are going to just put a range hood up and buy a countertop microwave. It would be too much trouble to move the cabinet up 5 inches and get new doors and all that stuff.

sliding up a cabinet is pretty easy. Add some crown moulding and it can look really nice too. I'd stop by a Home Depot/Lowes kitchen design team and get a free consultation. Snap a few pics, measure how much space you have to the ceiling and range and bring it in.

You might be able to find a custom size OTR by Viking or some other high end manufacturer. Its pretty common that older ones weren't as deep as the newer ones. Your options are pretty limited. Either raise your cabinets up or go with a regular hood and a separate microwave.

I have plenty of room, but I would think I would have to move all the cabinets up, not just the center section.
