i seen this at my school yesterday and i want to do this. you can put pictures, calenders, all kinda crap under the plexiglass. all the while keeping the surface nice and not scratched up.

I know what you're talking about... I seen the same stuff at the local school, except they order it in large sheets... about how many square feet you lookin' for?

if you want any large dimensions, dont go to homedepot, go to your local glass repair shop. they fix windows and stuff. they will have large sheets of plexiglass or whatever that you can buy, or have cut to your specifications.

problem is, if you buy one sheet, it's going to be stupid, cuz it's going to be quite huge and hard to manage.

I have twin-bed sized sheet of 3/32" plexi glass covering my work surface under my bed (loft bed) big sheets arent too hard to move around but they bend a lot so it could seem like its gonna snap :)

most hardware stores sell 4x8' sizes, usually in 1/4" & 3/8" (maybe 3/16", 1/2", etc..)

Also consider glass. That is what we have at work on our desks and they are a lot more durable for us. Of course its not uncommon to find one of us soldering at our desk.

The other thing to consider would be two pieces rather than one big piece. Easier to retrieve or place items under it while not having to remove EVERYTHING off of your desk. Particularly a computer monitor.
