Anyone know where i can get some Absente?

My father said he would like to try Absente, a type of liquor. He hinted to me that he would love it if i could find him some by Xmas. The only problem is I have never seen it in any store, only read about it in magazines, and my local liquor store didnt' even know what it was. If anyone knows on anywhere, online or off that i could get some from, it would be greatly appreciated. THanks everyone

I think its absinth, or something close to that. I also belive that it contains some sort of opiate. My friends had some in europe. I have never seen it (or looked for it) here in the usa

Well, funnily enough, I was drinking large quantities of this only a few weeks ago. I'm in a band, and every time we do a show, we purchase a wierd and wonderful high alcohol beverage to consume before and after playing. Absinth tastes very odd....a bit like...trees/leaves.

Oh yeah, it'll also make you incredibly drunk and oh so painfully ill the next morning Top stuff. I'm not sure where we got it though...

Believe it is a derivative of wormwood. Real Oozo from Greece used to have it.

Think it was Van Gough's favorite.

why don't you get him some Pernod, which is similar in taste & not illegal to import. It is available in most liquor stores. It has a strong anise taste.

Pernod may taste similar, but it lacks the "special effects" of real absinthe (absenta is just the spanish translation). Spirits Corner has a good selection. I've, ummm, heard that Deva is the best bang for the buck. Be forewarned, Hill's absinth is just bad tasting liquor, not real absinthe.
