Anyone know where I can get ribbon cables mass produced for cheap??

There was a company called SpectraStrip based in Stanton, CA (my mom used to work for them in the 70's) that would do it for ya... Dunno now though.
 
I think you should consult the 'Made in China' corp, heck, their ribbon cables are 66 cents a piece, and that's in a shop with all the premiums (I mean IDE cables, though).
