According to the article in the link below, they claim that 40-42 inches panels can be had for less than 950 and 30-32 are in the 425 range. The article is dated July 2005

Nope. 42" TVs definately don't sell for that much. Prices have gone down, but not by much.

That is the PANEL cost, only one (albeit the largest) component of the overall cost.

The article even explains that, if you actually read:

That's because the price of 40- to 42-inch LCD panels fell to $950 this month, the first time such devices have cost less than $1,000, market research firm iSuppli said Thursday.

The falling prices of panels, the most expensive component of the high-tech TVs, could bring the price of the 40- to 42-inch sets down to $2,500 by the end of the year, iSuppli predicted. The most popular size for large, flat-screen sets is 42 inches, according to makers of the generally cheaper plasma version.

Oh and prices are already well below what's mentioned in that article.

A 42" 1080P is under $2K these days. At Best Buy.

I just bought 2 x 20.1" Samsung 204B's for $287.95 after $60 MIR and with 2% off (fat-cash). I don't think they'll get much lower than that, especially now that 19" LCD's are at the price of quality 19" CRT's from 2003
