Anyone know when the "Merom" based 2nd-gen Asus EEEs are coming out?

I'm holding off buying the 7" model seeing as the 2nd gen is right around the corner, and is gonna be based on a dual-core. Anyone have more specifics on the release date, or price?

I'm in for one if they can get the screen resolution and size to be bigger. The extra speed would be nice too, but the major deal breaker for me now is the low resolution screen.

People have found ways to make the LCD run 1024x768 and 1280x1024. Not sure if they have a 1280x800 widescreen mod yet or not.

Link to people running it at 1024? I'd love to get it running at that res.

What's the "native" resolution of the screen? I personally would want to run at that resolution regardless of what I could force the OS to run at. From the link above:

It appears as though the driver essentially makes the screen space larger, and then scales the elements on the screen to appear as the proper resolution.

It's basically the same concept as running an LCD below it's native res, except in this case it's downscaled as opposed to upscaled. Neither are ideal situations as the pixels aren't being mapped 1:1, but it's better than nothing. :)

Also is EEE 2nd gen going to have dual core? I think I remember reading about it being based on the Core architecture, but I thought it was the single-core models. I even remember hearing about Silverthorne being included in the 2nd gen, but I think that was more speculation than anything.

I completely agree. One can barely do anything with a 800x400 display (or whatever it is). I'll wait for the wide screen equivalent of 1024x768.

Ditto. Increase the res and it'll become more than a toy.

Also add in a trackpoint, like the IBM Thinkpads, and it's be awesome. It'd pretty much be faster and smaller than my current (old) X22. Probably not as well built, but hopefully cheaper than a Thinkpad of that tiny size.
