Anyone know what's the cheapest powered microphone can you get?

Have a friend with a G4 powerbook. It appears you can't use regular microphones with the line in input jack on it. It only seems to work with powered microphones. Ideally, he wants to be able to wear a headset so he can game with ut2k4 and chat on skype with no feedback.

Ideas?

w/ student discount it's not too bad and you can always find one used online for under $100. plus you get a webcam.
