Anyone know what's inside the WDBAAU0020HBK-NESN?

Best Buy has these 2TB WD External drives on sale for $120. I need another drive for my server and have some BB gift certificates I need to get rid of. I never buy anything there so getting a 2TB drive for $100 is appealing, just pull it out of the enclosure and drop it in. But I want to know what is in it. If it's a recent generation EADS or EARS drive I am fine. But if it's a couple generations old I would rather just spend the extra $20. Tried google and couldn't find anything.

Hang on. Isn't the WD20EADS the first generation and then the EARS with 4k the "new" generation. So in essence it can't be an old drive because there isn't one yet? Or is my thinking screwed?

I bought it. The case was a pain in the rear to open but inside was a WD20EADS. I'm happy 2TB's for $100.

Hi. Can you tell me how you opened the case for the drive? There are no screws, and I'm leery of breaking open the case. My drive dropped, when it was plugged in, two nights ago, and now it won't power on. I tried 2 different power cables and USB cables. I'd like to open the case, remove the drive, and try connecting it directly via IDE or SATA, if that's an option.

Does it void your warranty to open the case?

Perhaps, but even if it does not, often the "consumer level" external HDDs only have a 1 year warranty while the typical OEM drive purchased from Newegg will have a 3 year warranty.

Also, a warning about opening external drives. Probably not for the 3½" models, but some of the WD 2½" models (Passport) internally uses proprietary connectors, so you can't just pop them into a normal PC.
