Anyone know what would cause someone to breakout and itch all over?

Just before I was leaving work today my scalp was itching a bit, then on my commute back my arms were slightly itchy. A few hours later I'm itching all over and I'm noticing rash like bumps and welts. I'm kind of freaking out because as far as I know I have no known allergic reactions.

Any idea what could cause something like this?

I gotta get to a doctor in the morning

Gone camping or done any yard work recently? It might be poisin Ivy/Oak. Otherwise you are having an alergic reaction to something else (inscect or arachnid bite maybe?), take some benedryl or claratin and get to a doctor if it gets any worse.

My sis had [what was diagnosed as] pityriasis rosea and it didn't itch at all for her. It is a somehwhat rarer skin disorder, if you ask me.

Oh, it's extremely rare (prevalence is 0.13% in men and 0.14% in women), but itching it present in 75% of cases. I was just listing it because

a.) No one on the internet can diagnose what he has
b.) He posted vague symptoms
c.) I'm an asshole

herpes?

j/k...yeah i would agree with what everyone else said...in reference to what someone else said up there, did you change detergents recently? wear a material you don't usually wear?

figure out if anything is different than usual and you might find out what it is

hives.

i got hives once when i was in the 3rd grade by playing in my backyard. apparently, there was some chemical on the grass and i broke out the next day. i was pretty painful, and wasn't in a very desirable location :(

You probably have hives. It's mainly caused by stress. This happened to me once during a very stressful time in my life. Go to a physician...until then, take allergy medicine and stay away from shellfish, citrus, a lot of junk food, etc.... Hell, just eat healthy.

sounds like hives, ditto on the benedryl. if you take the benedryl and it gets better, it probably was an allergic or stress event.

Important: if you are having breathing difficulties, contact the doctor immediately.

good luck.

I had this going once a long while back. Went to my doctor and he prescribed, over the course of 4 visits and 6 or so weeks, various medications to no avail. Towards the end I was getting pissed. I was really. really itchy.

The last time I went in we both had the same idea. For me to see a dermatologist. I did.

He took a small biopsy and the results were, for the lack of the medical term, "super dry skin".

He suggested quick, tepid showers. Soap on only the "stinky" parts. He suggested a specific brand of soap. Basis, which is too expensive to even consider buying now if you can even find it. He also prescribed a lotion, Lac-Hydrin.

It worked. I still have problems today, but don't let it get out of hand.

I have no idea what your problem is. This was mine.
