Sounds like hives. Take some benadryl (might or might not help your particular case, but it's the first thing you try when you get hives.) You can take aveeno baths to help soothe the itching. If you get any on your face (lips swell, eyelids swell, etc) go to the doctor or ER right away--you could get them in your airway and stop breathing.

P rosea has pinkish bumps and not normal hive type bumps. I actually had it as a kid. My dermatologist gave me a huge supply of sample cream rather than making us buy it at a pharmacy. But they were tiny little tubes, smaller than the tubes actic silver comes in.

If it's bad enough, they have other drugs at their disposal. Prescription antihistamines (some people only respond to specific antihistamines, and benadryl might not work at all, like me for instance, only Zyrtec controls my hives), steroids (like Prednisone), and in severe cases, epinephrine (Epi-pen for example).

You're right, though. Benadryl is the first thing a doctor will have you try for hives, so you will be way way ahead of the game if you try it on your own before you go see a doctor (unless your hives threaten your airway.) It'll save you another doctor visit if it didn't work.

Rule of thumb is to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine generic & much cheaper), as Bryophyte mentioned, any facial swelling or wheezing, go to ER immediately.

Could be as simple as environmental exposure to an allergan, like new laundry detergent or airborne pollutant, or as complicated as a food allergy or something that could be life threatening if you develop the aforementioned facial swelling/wheezing.

Usually depends on how bad your allergic reaction is, and what kind of doctor. Allergists sometimes don't bother with benadryl, most GPs/family doctors will use it as first line of defense if you aren't bad enough off.
