Anyone know what short story I'm thinking of?

I remember reading this short story in highschool and I can't remember the name.

The premise was that these few people were the last people on the planet and an evil computer was trying to exterminate them. There was something about a monkey and in the end the main character kills all his friends to save them from perpetual slavery and gets turned into this neverdying blob for punishment...

Does this story exist or am I just crazy?
