I'm looking for an alternative around here, or at least a place to buy it (I wouldn't know where to start looking), but is this stuff kinda like the putty you can use to seal cracked pipes? I've seen this gray putty that dries up very hard, kinda like an epoxy I think. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I need something to seal up a flange that's welded to a pipe, I just need to seal up any pinhole leaks I might have.

<< Autoparts store like autozone or checker/kragen/chief >>

Yeah, I saw them selling tubes of gray putty that advertised that it temporarily repairs cracked pipes, but wasn't named JB Weld - is this the same deal?

Know what it is? The packaging right here says "The World's Finest Cold Weld Compound"

Got the "steel" and the "hardener"...

mix well ;)

It's been on the market for over 10 years....however after buying it, the user often disappears and is never heard from again...go figure.

Same thing happened before Super Glue Remover became popular....seems a market niche might be available...

Yes, I know what it is, I have some of it. Its two seperate substances that when mixed together, when it dries, it is like a hard metal. It works great as a filler.

JB weld is right up there beside Duct tape and WD40 as must have items in the RedGreen toolbox.
It mixes like epoxy, so when you use it, it is nearly liquid, better (for somethings) then the hardening puttys, some of those are 2 part also.

YOu hear about the dude who thought all he needed in his toolbox was Duct Tape, until his toolbox rusted shut then he decidied that WD40 was also necessary.

Yup even walmart carries it here, but any two-part epoxy should work. You might just want to compare strength ratings on the packages. I held a piece of pvc pipe in a hole in my stainless steel upper intercooler hose with just some epoxy for about a year :D I also epoxied a fan into an open hole in my case (long story: I didn't feel like making a real metal mount so I broke out the rod between the scsi knockouts, ducttaped a squirrel cage fan in place and poured some epoxy over the inside so it made a "plate" of epoxy around the fan on top of the duct tape). After I pulled off teh duct tape I found that I can lift my 40lb full tower that is held in by nothing but epoxy!
