Anyone know what DB means?

Commonly dB in computer, and electronic means Deci Bell (dB), it is the most common way to measure Audio level.

However in your case.

DB9, a plug in the back of most computers with 9 pins in, usually used foe serial port.

DB25 = A Plug in the back of the computer with 25 Pins. Usually the old type of serial port.

I don?t remember what the D stands for, but the B I think is for Blue.

All I can remember is that this is IBM's smaller Rs232 serial port. I know what RS means 'Recommended Standard'
but cant think of what DB stands for. I know one reason why they call it DB is because its shell is shaped as a "D" pattern.
If I can remember anything else I'll post it here.

It's interesting that I've found virtually zero about it. As an example, I was able to find a definition for RJ-45 (Registered Jack-45), just fooling around on another info site. I would have expected it to be an acronym for something -- "Data Bidirectional" or some such. But I found somewhere the thing about D for the shape of it, so I take that as correct. Then why B?

Here's hoping, cause I gotta get back to more important things that aren't nearly as interesting.

SpeedTester, is right the "D" comes from:

D-shell connector - One of the family of connectors: DA-15, DB-25, DC-37, DD-50, DE-9, and DEH-15 [VGA]. The "D" is the shape of the shell, the next letter determines connector size, and the number is the maximum pin count.

The official name of these plugs is:

The 25-pin (or 9) D-subminiature Plug.

There are probably components that use DS and DU so the next letter (from the word sub) is ?B?
