well it depends on how far away they measured the db either inches away or 3-4 feet away, also matter on the pitch of them. (yeah thats the only bitch about that stuff)

i would have (and did) go for a case with 120mm fans instead of 80's

problem is my case is quite close to me + its at head level, its on my desk so I hear them way too much :(

it seems tha we reply to each other within a min or so. Iguess you could try those noise dampeners that they sell, it would get rid of most of the noise made from vibration.

well its not a vibration problem, quite positive

and Ive seen some lower "db" fans on the market but I loose lots of cfm in that case :(

my only hope is that I might have something different (meaning not the ones in the link, the ones in the link do have fancier connectors, I knows its a small difference, but I gotta try and hope :) )

they have 2 or possibly 3 different fans there, just check out their regular fans and see which best fits.

looks more like this one
but the funny thing is that they rate all 80s at the same db and same cfm, odd

shrugs, i dont have any fan smaller than 92 (cpu fan) and only 120's on the case. thats pretty much the only thing you can do to keep up good cfm while being quiet. dont think there is much you can do other than moving your pc or putting crap infront of the case to help block the sound.

oh here is question, how I fit 92 or 120 in the antec hdd cage thats made to accept 80mm ?

Thanks

mod, cut the hole so that it fits the 120, it would probably be easier to return it and get one that has 120mm fan mounts standard, 3700bqe is a good one.

I'm cooling my Antec case with 18dB NMB 80mm case fans that are supposed to be about 18cfm. Honestly, unless I had a dual-processor system with a high-end video card and three hard drives, this is about all the airflow I'm going to need, thanks to the free-breathing vents that let the fans do their job.

Suggestion: if the noise is bothering you on your 1080, start by plugging your fans into the Fan-Only line from the power supply, so they run at reduced RPM :)

the ones in the back are plugged into the "fan only"
but the front ones have to be on full lines, because Im out of "fan only" + reduced speed wont help me because I need the cfm (my hdds are already a bit hot)

Maybe use Panaflo L1A's then. They're relatively good at cramming air through constrictions (such as a nest of HDDs) and run quieter than the stock Antec fans.

the 80mms ?
I was considering them but they have a 24cfm rating (I currently have 34 and the drives feel a bit hot)

+ something odd about these, they are rated 24v for some reason

Panasonic makes the Panaflo line in both 12-volt and 24-volt versions. I'd certainly recommend getting the 12-volt :D

If you want more airflow than 24cfm, consider the M1A model instead of the L1A. Personally, I've never tried the M model in any size. As mentioned, the Panaflos are better than average at squeezing air through constrictions IMO, so they might surprise you even if their cfm rating seems lower. Another fan that could be worth a look is the Enermax manually-adjustable 80mm fan, which you can crank up/down to suit your tastes.

Yet another possibility is to shoehorn a 92mm Panaflo L1A into your front drive cage. You'll have to take out the plastic fan holder and figure out how to fit it in there snugly (maybe some O-rings or something soft around the edge to hold it in place). The 92mm L1A is rated for over 40cfm at 27dB and it's very quiet in real life.

Reducing restrictions to airflow improves not only the airflow, but the noise level (less turbulence = less noise), so also consider taking the bezel off of your case and nipping out the stock grillework that the fans have to pull the air through, at least for the front fans. You should be able to do a rudimentary job of that with nothing but a good diagonal cutting plier.

how many harddrives do you have in your cage? when i had a chieftec case (similar to your 1080), i find 2x 80mm panaflo L1As were enough to keep my 3 HDDs cool. i used a side panel fan too (panaflo 80mm M1A). & theres none in the back... if you want to make use of your current fans and want to control the noise then use a fan controller that can be mounted in your case's 5 1/4 bay..

they come in 12V version too..

I don't know, but they are louder than crap. I was going to use one in a system build for someone because I wanted to put a case fan in the case and wanted to get rid of the fan, but I couldn't do it to the poor person. It turned a pleastantly quiet system into something annoying.
