Anyone know West Milford or Ringwood in New Jersey?

My girlfriend and I are looking for a house in the burbs and in looking at Realtor.com, I have seen a lot of great houses in our price range - ~1 acre, waterfront, 3 bedrooms. How "out in the boonies" is that area? We want to live somewhere where we can afford a nice place, but don't want to have to drive for 30 minutes to go to the grocery store...

You'd be hard pressed to find somewhere in NJ that it takes 30 mins to go to the grocery store. I live in a "boonie" area and we have a target and applebees 10 mins from my house... and that area is close to lake hopatcong, very nice area. And it's not far from 287. My suggestion though, go look at the houses :)

Tell you what. Don't worry about how boonie it is. Move out there and within 5-10 years it won't be boonie for long.

I lived in West Milford for the first 11 years of my life (considering im only 22 years old, thats half my life)..

Yes it out in the boonies, but there is a downtown area that has EVERYTHING you need. Nice small town feel.... Beautiful town out in the mountains... Im actually going back up there in a week from tuesday (I live in florida now)

There is 3-4 grocery stores in the town now if i remember correctly when i lived there... Hell, when i lived there there wasnt even a traffic light yet :)

if there is a decent pizza delivery place, I can survive. I used to live in Carmel, NY and was so far "out there" that NOONE would deliver to my house. I can't repeat that kind of exile...

how do YOU define "nice small town feel" is there a downtown area with a city hall, ice cream parlor and all that?

30 min outside of West Milford/Ringwood and you're in Manhattan...okay, more like 45 but you get the point. Definately a nice area, quiet enough, but you're still right in the middle of one of the most densely populated areas of the country. We used to go hiking in Ramapo State Forest all the time, off Skyline Drive.

Rockland/Orange Counties in NY have some nice towns...Warwick is really nice, but a little more "out in the sticks" than Ringwood.
