Xanax and Vodka... she won't have a liver in a few years. FTL.

i have tried lexapro, paxil, prozac, and two benzo's (klonopin and xanax) all within a six month period.

I don't think doctors care. Mine gave me Zoloft after I told him about my brother dying, and that I was about to lose my job. I'm not sure if it worked or if it was just the passage of time. Either way, I blew up like a balloon during the 2 years I was on it.

Effexor works good for me.
Talk to your doctor. Many ADs take a few weeks to start working, and it make take several trials with different drugs to find what works for you if you go that route.
Talking to a therapist or keeping a journal may also help.
Exercise works well for me, too. Even with the Effexor, sometimes I get in a mood that I can't shake. Usually a good 4-6 mile run will take care of it, though.

But whatever the case, talk to a doctor. There's no reason to just suffer with it. Exercise, talking, writing, drugs -- everyone is different. What works for other people may not work for you.

Standard treatment? Take lots and lots of pills

Other than that, if you want a real fix as opposed to a quick fix, talk to a psychologist

It probably doesn't work for everyone, but I "treated" myself by taking a vacation, travelling around the world, and just plain deciding not to be depressed.
