Anyone know the speeds (Clock) of the opteron 240, 242, & 244 processors?

I don't think anyone knows for sure but the numbers 1.6GHz, 1.8GHz and 2.0GHz have appeared in the wild.

As said above, they haven't been offically announced. Even leaked information could be changed last minute by AMD. And the information on various sites tend to be drastically different.

Extreme 1: AMD said that Hammer will be released at 3400+ speeds. Some assumptions about efficiency means that 3400+ would be roughly 2.0 GHz. Then assuming that Opteron and the Athlon 64 would be the same speeds at release, then the Opteron will be released at 2.0 GHz. Thus it would be quite natural for AMD to brag about their fastest processor and not the rest, it makes sense for AMD to release the Opteron at 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 GHz.

Extreme 2: AMD said Opteron will be released at 1.6 GHz. This tends to be much more believable than all the assumptions listed above (however AMD could always change their minds). Again using the argument that it would be silly for AMD to annouce their slowest Opteron, 1.6 GHz must be the top Opteron speed at release. Thus the three model numbers could mean 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6 GHz or they could mean 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 GHz.

Andreasl posted a batch of numbers right in the middle of the extremes. I haven't seen that on any site, but it makes an interesting compromise. I tend to believe the 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 group - but I'm just guessing like everyone else.

Eight days and we will know for sure. I'm quite interested in the reviews, but I believe that Opteron will initially be a flop - it won't shine for another two years.

AMD did use the number 3400+ alot in the past in their Hammer roadmaps. However they changed the Opteron model number scheme to these discussed in this thread and elsewhere. Those being the 100, 200 and 800 series. Each indicating how many CPUs are supported. But that is explained elsewhere so there is no need to rehash it again. And I'm sure you know it already.

To clarify my comment I believe 240 is 1.4GHz, 242 is 1.6GHz and 244 is 1.8GHz. But I think they will only release the 240 and 242 models on the 22nd this month. The 244 will probably be availible a month or so later as they begin ramp up the speeds.

It would also be interesting to know when they will release the 100 and 800 series of Opteron. I haven't seen any single-CPU Opteron motherboards with AGP slots, which would be needed for the 100 series.

We will know for sure in about 1 week..

how will the 100 series differ from the A64?? and why would you need both?

When I got quotes from Appro, the bottom end chip was a 1.4GHz, so that must be the 240. We also talked about a 1.6GHz, so I expect that's the 242.
