Anyone know the particulars about different board revisions?

per the thread i made before, i pulled the trigger on another UD3P, and since we sell so so many at frys, we always have only the latest revision left in stock. i learned quite a few characteristics to expect from my board, but im also using a different CPU, different ram config, and a different revision with a different bios. on the surface it looks the same, but it seems like Vdroop is a bit higher on this board (at lower voltages as well), and im wondering if it isnt just a characteristic of the CPU, given i had some major Vdroop issues with it on the 680i i was using it on before. remounting my cooler is a right pain in the ass, and i really dont want to take the time to swap the boards out for each other to test and see if it's just a quirk, or if the newer revision really isnt as good as the older one is

not sure man; my bios vcore setting is 1.3975v in OS the droop reads 1.360v thats with the anti-vcore droop enabled

btw, what bios settings did you use to reach 4.25Ghz with your board and Q9650? I have the UD3R & a 9650 also: v1.1 bios F8

yea it might be a characteristic of the board, but it could just be a lesser CPU. i didnt have to crank mine up much to get to 4GHz (1.33 bios 1.296 CPU-Z), but i figured since i was doing a lot of batch work converting FLAC files to .mp3 that spending a day on it when i was sick and bored would be worth it. what cooler are you using?

Aigo guided me with the installation of a custom h20 setup

Ek Supreme Lite (775 1366 compatible)
Swiftec 320 rad
355 pump with top res
1/2 id tubing

it is well worth it for sure

for my situation i had to give up air cooling cause of where my computers are at

lol thats a nice rig. you should have no problem getting 4GHz on that if it's doable on air. you might want to look at your CPU Termination (FSB) voltage and northbridge though first, as well as setting the PLL to 1.5v. i set my FSB and NB to 1.3v and PLL to 1.5v and dialed in voltages on the CPU until i found one that let it run overnight in OCCT stable

I've had it stable Prime95 & LinX both for +10hrs but after I ran it at default and did a few things, it can't get it back up that high ala 4.25Ghz

i've just booted into windows at 475x8

EDIT: just crashed

EDIT 2: im almost ready to jump on the Q9550 deal at Micro Center for 169$

I think the more voltage I give it, the more noise/ripple is happening thus the crashes

yea sounds like it's just a sketchy chip. i would sell it and get Q9550 from microcenter, or drop it into another rig. even people running Q9550s are getting overclocks more stable than that lol.

got my e5200 stable at 1.360v CPUz 4.5 hours OCCT run. gonna start bumping it up and letting it run while i play some fallout 3.

Yeah, i was thinking of unloading it. Pitty I paid 500+ when I first bought it, and it was always h20 cooled... its hard to think of it sold at 150$

playin some COD:WAW currently

nah rev 1.6 is the latest revision of the GA-EP45-UD3P, look at gigabyte's website, they already have a second bios revision for it (FB), which my board came with, and updated drivers
