Anyone know the max up/down speed of a tethered 8700C BlackBerry?

I'm hearing conflicting information.

One rep said that I can only connect to EDGE speeds through the device itself and when its being used as a modem through tethering, it can only connect at slow non-EDGE speeds.

Anyone know if this is correct?
