Anyone know the max resolutions of cable, DVD, Satellite?

Im trying to find the resolutions of all 3, to show to my mom the difference between regular cable and the higher res mediums...

I believe the NTSC standard is 525, so a regular TV won't display more than that. I think cable is 480 vertical, and VHS is 240 vertical (which is why VHS sucks so bad).

I'm thinking DVD is 720x480. VCD is 352x240.

I'm pulling this from memory, so all this should be double checked. I have no idea about satellite.

Standard analog cable is going to have a max of about 240-300 lines of resolution. The small direct satellite systems max out around 400 lines and DVD is around 525 or so. With satellite though there are different amounts of compression applied to different stations. The premium movie channels and PPV channels have less compression and thus a better picture than ESPN or some other regular channel. Also, I have noticed that on some channels where there is fast movement (sports) that there is a lot of motion artifacts (blockyness). This is due to the higher rate of compression on those channels.
