I know the reference board length is 9.5", but I can't find anywhere whether this is the that, or one of the longer 10.5" cards that sapphire does for its vapor/toxic series. Newegg has a reference xfx card, but the sapphire is currently $30 + shipping cheaper. I can't fit a 10.5" card with the rear power sockets though, and don't want to end up sawing up my hd cage.

Blue PCB means it's Sapphire's custom PCB. It will be the same length as the Vapor-X card.

I really think you'd be better off just buying the cheapest reference 5850 that you can get your hands on... The VisionTek for $299 is worth the extra $10 over that Sapphire. A buddy of mine just bought a pair of the MSI Twin Frozr II 5850's and he's currently in the process of returning them. They are complete garbage and don't even come close to doing what they claim. A lot of these companies like to slap on a flashy looking cooler and then completely neglect decent memory and more importantly VRM cooling. I have a feeling that Sapphire probably did more of the same in order to cut costs. Was there any reason that you were considering that Sapphire card other than the price?

Yeah I was looking at the sapphire just because of price. Of course, as of this morning, xfx's reference card is no longer even listed on newegg...

Agreed. After reading a whole lot of reviews, I was convinced that it made sense to go with the reference 5850 board. It's shorter, uses less power, and has fewer restrictions on overclocking/overvolting. And frankly, it runs so cool and quiet that there's no need for an "upgraded" cooler, which is really a first for Ati. Get the Visiontek: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129141. Better warranty too.
